“I am an artist before I am a woman. When I describe myself it’s in this order: Artist, woman, American, stripper. (I rarely even mention that I'm a brain surgeon anymore.")
As an actress, Debbie has created more than sixty roles for Off, Off-Off Broadway, Repertory theatre, and summer stock. She received her BFA from Windham College in Vermont, and went on to Penn State U. for an M.F.A. in Theatre.
After moving to New York City, she was quickly cast in shows and the Improv group "Chicken Lips," which performed all over the Tri-state area. Pretty quickly she discovered comedy which allowed her to act on stage whenever she wanted. This eventually led her back to her other passion: Theatre.
She created her first one-woman show "Without Me My Show Is Nothing!" In NYC to rave reviews. The NY Post said, “This is a well-constructed, neatly written, finely acted theatre piece.” After bringing the show to Los Angeles, she earned raves on that coast as well; Backstage, west: "A seasoned and extraordinary performer," she then won the Drama Logue award, and earned a development deal for her own sitcom.
She then co-wrote, co-starred in, and co-directed the National touring hit "Self-Help The Comedy," which was called "dead-on hilarious," by Variety, and “scathingly funny” "relentlessly humorous," by reviewers in every region it played. From that show, Zelda Bing, the self-proclaimed 'man magnet', emerged, and Debbie expanded the hit character, creating a one-woman show, “The Zelda Bing Experience—Find Love Even if it’s Just with Yourself!” (This show is available for bookings.)
Debbie's newest one-woman show "Has Anybody Seen Debbie?" Won the "Best Comedian" Award at the 2019 UNITED SOLO FEST in NYC. She will be touring with that, as soon as that becomes an option.
